Quiet As It's Kept Exclusive: Legendary RnB Artist Has Cancer

What's up ya'll! I was hit with information that has deeply saddens me, but a legendary R&B artist will be formally announcing next week to having cancer.

I can't reveal who it is just yet, because I'm not wanting to get the record execs all pissed off. Plus, this artist's spouse can be a REAL trip!

Anywho, what little I can reveal is that this person does have plans of being a spokesperson on behalf of cancer.

Cancer is NO joke! Just the whole thing from having it, the treatment and the overall effects. I've had two members of my family die from cancer. So, if you could please say a silent prayer for ALL those suffering with cancer.

I most certainly, will leak the info the night before the announcement....."quiet as it's kept"

EXCLUSIVE: John Forte + Talib Kweli - "Homecoming"(video)

Talib Kweli is my most favorite rapper. I just never get enough of the MCEO!! Recently, he teamed up in the studio with his close friend John Forte, to celebrate John's homecoming.

For those who don't know, John Forte(fmr Fugees collaborator) was pardoned from a 14yr prison sentence by Fmr. President Bush before leaving office. This was probaby one of Bush's best actions as a President...IMOP!

To me not only does this video celebrate John being released, but it celebrates the rejoining of two friends. What this video reflects to me is respect, love and true friendship.

So you see, it's stuff like this that Kweli does which makes me truly admire/respect him as an artist and a man.

WELCOME HOME JOHN FORTE!!!

Mitchy Slick (From Strong Arm Steady Feat. Wrongkind) - He'll Shoot

New video from my homie Mitchy Slick

Having recently been released from WMG, my man Mitchy was like "uck it" they were not going to stop his grind. So he went back to the basics....he took it to the streets.

I like this video, not just because Mitchy is my friend, but because it's REAL. It's a true messege for the streets. Yes, some of you may say "it's just too hardcore" that "the music industry is trying to move away from gangsta rap", that's all good. But at the end of the day, as we all know there are still gangstas out there who need guidance and that's just what my man has done.

Gangsta rap aint going away, the means of how the masses are exposed to it has just changed. You know it's like bey bey's kids....they don't die...
they just multiply!!

Happy Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but not only is this a celebration of his life, it is also a celebration of a new life...a new era.

I know many will post Dr. Kings "I Have A Dream" speech, but I chose his last speech because it has always been the one that, I've identifed with the most. I'm not really certain why this speech has moved me so much. Maybe it's because he foreseen his end nearing, or maybe because in this speech I always knew that we would someday "see the mountain top...the promised land". What amazes me the most is how true this dream has become.

Tomorrow our nation will swear in its 44th President Barack Obama. A black man, who brings hope and unity to this country and the world.

So, Happy Birthday Dr. King! Thank you for your foresight...your strength....your ideas, and your wisdom.

Dreams really do come true!!!

Snoop Dogg Headphones Arriving in Stores This Year

West Coast rap star Snoop Dogg is giving fans more to look forward to this year with the release of his new line of headphones.

The rapper’s headphones will feature amplified bass for consumers.

In addition to Snoop Dogg, famed turntablist Mix Master Mike and Super Natural will market their own line of headphones for DJs. Park City, Utah-based music accessory company Skullcandy will make both headphone lines, which are slated to hit stores later this year.

With the Skullcandy alliance, Snoop Dogg and Mix Master Mike join mega producer Dr. Dre, who expanded his business endeavors last year by working with Interscope Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine and audio accessory maker Monster Cable to create his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

The beatmaker’s headphones are priced at $350. Snoop Dogg and Mix Master Mike will capitalize on their new partnership with Skullcandy by taking the stage later this month at the Snowsports Industries America trade show.

“At Skullcandy, we’re always looking for events that bring a unique energy to the action sports and music industry,” stated Rick Alden, CEO and founder of Skullcandy. “Bringing a mainstream and talented crew of folks like Snoop Dogg, Mix Master Mike and Super Natural to SIA for the show’s last year in Vegas is our way of going out with a bang. Skullcandy will have a booth at the event, which will take place from January 27 to 30 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Snoop Dogg and Mixmaster Mike are set to perform on January 28.

To date, T-Pain's Thr33 Ringz has sold 430,118 units, while West's Auto-Tune opus, 808's & Heartbreak is certified platinum with 1,094,859 units sold. Recent Auto-Tune convert, Lil Wayne leads the pack with 2,900,412 copies sold of Tha Carter III.

When addressing the impact of Hip Hop on his product, Antares' VP of Marketing, Marco Alpert was effusive in his praise of T-Pain and Kanye.

"Both T-Pain and Kanye West have released new albums on which they make extensive use of the Auto-Tune Vocal Effect and brought even more media attention to it," Alpert said. Obama Softens Stance on Burris

    By Anne E. Kornblut
President-elect Barack Obama said on Wednesday he would accept Roland Burris as his replacement in the Senate, following the lead of Senate Democrats who have softened their opposition to the candidate chosen by embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

"This is a Senate matter. But I know Roland Burris, obviously; he's from my home state. I think he's a fine public servant. If he gets seated then I'm going to work with Roland Burris, just like I work with all the other senators," Obama said at a press conference at his transition headquarters.

Obama, on just his fourth day in Washington, refused again to discuss the ongoing violence in the Middle East, saying there are "institutional constraints" preventing him from weighing in while President Bush is still in office. But, drawing a distinction between foreign and domestic policy, Obama put down clear markers on his economic plan. He appointed Nancy Killefer as his first chief performance officer, a new position designed to make the federal government more efficient.
Obama said Killefer is "uniquely qualified" for the task, given her business sector background streamlining workplace processes and seeking inefficiencies that can be eliminated. He said she had "worked tirelessly" to encourage creativity and initiative among employees in the past, and said he would encourage his cabinet officials and other administration managers to meet with Killefer.

Killefer spoke after Obama, saying she was "deeply honored" to become the first person to hold the position, and acknowledged that the task of bringing about greater efficiencies would take time. "The people who deliver those services, the government employees themselves, will be central to this effort," she said, echoing Obama's remarks that the federal work force itself would be the key to enhancing government performance.

Surgeon Who Operated On Kanye West's Mother Receives One Year Jail Sentence

Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon responsible for operating on Kanye West's mother in November 2007, has been sentenced to a year behind bars for drinking and driving.

The popular celebrity plastic surgeon reportedly pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count and accepted his jail time.

Solano County Superior Court Commissioner Ray Wieser handed down the sentence in Vallejo Monday morning after Adams' defense counsel, Michael Cardoza, told the court that Adams did not want probation but was prepared to serve straight jail time for the offense. Wieser subsequently sentenced Adams to one year in Solano County Jail with credit for eight days previously served in custody.

Execution of sentence was stayed until 8:30 a.m. Feb. 6 to allow Adams time to address a probation violation case in Los Angeles. (Daily Democrat)

Adams' frequent records of drunken driving were allegedly considered in the sentencing, including his most recent arrest last summer.

According to the CHP, officers saw Adams' 2004 gray Jag XJ8 driving the wrong way up an off ramp on the 680 freeway just outside Benicia, Calif., just about a half hour from Oakland. After failing a field sobriety test, he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, driving the wrong way and driving on a suspended license.

This is Adams' third DUI arrest since 2003. (TMZ)

Police were reportedly contacted and told of the famous doctor's reckless driving when he was going in the opposite direction of traffic, which led to his arrest.

Authorities were alerted when motorists had called in to report the driver of a gray Jaguar going the wrong way on the freeway.

Adams also was arrested for driving on a suspended license from a March 2006 DUI conviction. (Associated Press)

In addition to his frequent arrests, the doctor also recently lost his California medical license stemming from late child support payments.

Adams was notified in a letter from the California Department of Consumer Affairs on May 21st which said he had 30 days to pay his child support to prevent from losing his license to practice. Failing to do so resulted in him losing his right to legally operate in the state. A rep from the Medical Board released a statement yesterday confirming the loss.

Jay-Z has displayed a strong sense of support for Barack, especially after the historic election when he penned a tribute song.

In a new track called "History," Jigga wastes no time in using the chorus to set the tone for a long-awaited win and goal finally reached.

"Now that all the smoke is gone / And the battles finally won / Victory is finally ours / History, so long, so long / So long, so long."[Listen Here ]

Known for his clever usage of metaphors, Jay compares Obama's victory to his yearning and frustration over a woman.

"Until she visit me / I'll be stuck with her sister her name is defeat / she gives me agony/ I'm stuck in this routine / whole new different day / same old thing /all I got is dreams / nobody else could see / nobody else believes / nobody else but me / Where are you victory / I need you desperately / not just for the moment, to make history." (SOHH)

Hughes Brothers' Pimp Drama Under Fire By City Of Oakland

The Hughes Brothers’ latest project Gentlemen of Leisure has come under fire by city officials who worry about the effect the new HBO drama will have on the world’s view of Oakland.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, the controversy is putting the new show’s shooting location in jeopardy, as members of the Oakland City Council and others debate whether or not to approve a film permit for the production.

Originally announced in July, Gentlemen of Leisure follows the life of a legendary Oakland pimp, as he struggles to leave the hustle.

The series, written by Evan Reilly, delves into the overall hustlers’ subculture by examining the conflict between old-school pimps and the younger guys whose approach incorporates the violence of the drug culture.

The City of Oakland’s concern is that the show will take advantage of the negative reputation already associated with the Bay Area hub and create an environment that will lead to the further exploitation of women.

That image would stand in exact opposition of Mayor Ron Dellums’ plan to create a “model city.”

The Hughes brothers, however, argue that their aim is to do for Oakland what The Wire did for the city of Baltimore by staying as true to reality as possible.

“It’s The Wire meets The Sopranos set in Oakland in a crime element never used before,” Allen Hughes told The San Francisco Chronicle. “It’s not just about pimps and prostitutes, but also about the history of a city that never got it’s due. Like Detroit or Miami and a lot of other cities, Oakland is steeped in heavy street industry, in rackets. I’m just going to say it, Oakland is a pimpin’ town. It’s flourished there. And whenever and wherever street life is celebrated, the city gets a shout out.”

In previous interviews about the project, Allen Hughes explained that Gentlemen of Leisure would be a departure from the traditional portrayal of pimp culture and would explore the human conditions it creates.

“This isn’t something we take lightly and we’re not doing a show about a tawdry pimp,” Hughes added recently. “The city is the star of the show, and characters spring forth from that.”

Even if they are denied permission to shoot in Oakland, the Hughes Brothers plan on starting production on Gentlemen of Leisure in the fall.

The show is executive produced by Interscope Records Chairman Jimmy Iovine and Polly Anthony for Interscope’s TV unit.

Iovine has voiced his interest in tying the drama heavily to Hip-Hop music.

    Queen Latifah Returning To Rap

Queen Latifah is headed back to where she started—rapping. The Oscar-nominated actress will depart from her last two jazz albums and return to her roots with her first hip-hop album in 11 years, scheduled for release in March.

“The last two albums have been kinda jazzy, standards, eclectic, but this one is hip-hop, dance. It’s back to the roots,” she told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” about her first rap album since 1998’s Order in the Court.

“It’s like all the original Queen Latifah, ‘U.N.I.T.Y.,’ ‘Ladies First’ feel, but bring that to now,” added the host of Wednesday’s 35th Annual People’s Choice Awards. “It’s sick, it’s a banger!”

The 38-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Dana Owens, made her musical debut in 1989 with All Hail the Queen, an album that spawned the female anthem “Ladies First.” Her arguably most-acclaimed hit came in 1994 when she released the Grammy Award-winning “U.N.I.T.Y.” off Black Reign.
